Choco Fruit’s mantra: enjoy some delicious ice cream while hanging out with family and friends in a great environment.
Kelly, Humberto, and Kelly’s Mom, Guadalupe, owners of Choco Fruit in Dodge City, started Choco Fruit with one of the main focuses being: they wanted people to feel welcomed and right at home when they stop by. Established in May of 2015, Choco Fruit has been open for nearly 2 years now and going strong. One of the main motivations behind the start of Choco Fruit was that Guadalupe wanted to leave an imprint for her family so they could work for themselves. That entrepreneurial mindset and some hard work led Guadalupe into starting Choco Fruit and passing it on to Kelly. Her boyfriend, Humberto, has also taken the business under his wing, as well. With the combined efforts of everyone, this family business has turned into a regular ice cream spot for many people looking for that great snack or beautiful gift basket (Fruit arrangements). Entrepreneurship, running a business and that hustle-mentality have all been instilled in Kelly’s family ever since Guadalupe had Kelly hustling mangos in downtown when she was younger.
After starting out as something Guadalupe wanting to leave for her 3 kids, Choco Fruit has turned into a prosperous business everyone is definitely proud of. Choco Fruit is now focused on addressing all their customers’ needs and becoming a true go-to spot for everyone in Dodge City, Kansas and all of Southwest Kansas. The idea of having rolled ice cream, one of the main foods on the menu, started out back in 2008, way before the store ever opened. Now, after some trial and error, their ice cream rolls are some of the most delicious ice cream treats you will find anywhere around Dodge City. Plus, you get to see the ice cream created right in front of you! The standards that Choco Fruit sets for itself are that everything must be homemade and made fresh. Everything is made in house and with fresh foods. Wonderful homemade cheesecake put into your ice cream rolls? There's nothing better than that!
Choco Fruit tries to bring in all cultures and merge that with the treats they serve. They want everyone to feel welcome, included and give people the option of experiencing new cultures and new tastes they wouldn’t necessarily see in other ice cream shops. Whether it’s the Mexican, American, African, or native cultures, Choco Fruit tries to incorporate that into their food and let customers experience that when they order something on the menu.
“We wanted to do something new and fresh. We wanted to focus on a healthy option for people so that they don’t have to settle for fast food chains. Something different than what everyone else offers in town without hurting their wallet. “ - Kelly
